Breaky Bottom Vineyard

Lewes, East Sussex

Breaky Bottom was established in 1974 by Peter Hall who had the foresight to realise that great sparkling wine could be made in England and rival the best of the Champagne makers across the channel, due to the similarities in terroir.

Renowned for its excellence, Breaky Bottom is an isolated farmstead set in a beautiful secluded valley in the South Downs. The vineyard is 5 miles from Lewes and lies in a protected bowl within the South Downs National Park and has been described by Oz Clarke as the most beautiful vineyard in Britain.

Clarke also said “The wine I’m fondest of and feel emotionally closest to is Breaky Bottom. It’s a lovely, maverick, emotional, romantic, joyous, individual original, just a one-off.”

In November 2013 the International Wine and Spirit Competition short-listed Breaky Bottom for ‘Best UK Wine Producer’ award. The vineyard has supplied the government cellars at Lancaster House and is regularly served at official British occasions including the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic celebrations.
